Elvis Sinosic Weighs In With His Picks For UFC 98

By Dave Carpinello

Certainly no stranger to the Octagon, Elvis Sinosic has fought in the UFC at seven events and has fought more than 20 times in mixed martial arts. The King of Rock and Rumble talked with PDG about what he thinks will take place tomorrow night at UFC 98.

Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida

This is a great match. Two undefeated fighters (though Rashad does have a draw). Both have really grown as fighters within the UFC. The problem is both are counter fighters. I think Lyoto is more patient, but saying that I can see Greg Jackson making a strategy that forces Lyoto to come forward. Rashad has great standup and great wrestling. Both guys have KO power. Both use fantastic footwork to setup their attacks. Lyoto works best against an aggressive fighter. The question is will Rashad break and push forward or will he be patient enough to wait for Lyoto to attack knowing he has the belt and you have to beat the champ.

I am stuck on the outcome of this match. I really think both guys are extremely talented and have the ability to win this match. I can see it going to a decision. The question is if it goes to the later rounds who will be stronger. I'm going to sit the fence on this one and say that the result will be a great match for the fans.

If was forced to pick… I’d probably lean towards Machida.

Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra

Hughes vs. Serra is an exciting match because it is a grudge match. Both guys don't like each other and will bring that to the Cage. Both have victories over GSP. Serra is the grappler, Hughes is the wrestler. Can Serra out strike Hughes before getting takedown. Can Hughes avoid the submission when he gets the takedown.

My prediction is that Serra won't land that big punch (though it is possible). Hughes will take Serra down. Serra is a good scrambler but Hughes has great control. Serra has the ability to sub Hughes and wouldn't be surprised if he did. Saying that I think Hughes will be able to avoid the submissions. Serra is better on the top rather than off his back. Hughes will be on top. Serra hasn't subbed a top fighter in a while and I don't think Hughes will be the next. Also Hughes is a multiple time Champ and I think people forget just how he cleaned out the division in his prime. Hughes will GNP and grind out a decision.
